As seen in the Wilmot-Tavistock Gazette.
Forty-eight hardy volunteers showed up to a tree planting event near the Wilmot Recreation Complex, despite the rain and mud on Earth Day (April 22). A wide variety of people attended, including families, young and old. There were 200 native trees planted near the Wilmot Recreation Complex, between Schmidt Woods and Highway 7&8, to complete that project. Tree species planted included sycamore, yellow birch, white spruce, white pine, tulip tree, cottonwood, silver maple, red maple and honey locust.
The event was organized by Let’s Tree Wilmot, (a project of Wilmot Horticultural Society) with support from Wilmot Township. Kitchener-Conestoga Member of Parliament Tim Louis attended, as well as Wilmot Mayor Natasha Salonen was out for her first tree planting. Let’s Tree Wilmot has planted trees at this site in May and October 2022, with 560 trees planted last year.
